Kempty Falls
Located 13 kms from Mussoorie. At Kempty, water falls from a height of 40 ft
giving the appearance of water jumping and playing on the rocks before falling
down. The name Kempty, is probably derived from 'camp-tea' as the Britishers
organized their tea parties here. You can reach Kempty by a taxi or bus and
can stay in the Huts.
SOUTH India
Courtalam Falls
On the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli district water falls from an elevation of
about 167 meters. Other waterfalls, Penaruvi, Shitarruvi, Pazhathottaruvi add
charm to this place. It is believed that the waters of Courtalam have medicinal
properties as they run through a forest of herbs. Silver Cascade is the famous
waterfall of Kodaikkanal.
Jog Falls
Among dense teak forest Sharavati river, across a deep gorge forms a romantic
site. The river leaps over an 800-foot precipice in four separate cataracts-the
four R's - Rajah, Roarer , Rocket and Rani. The four together create the Jog
falls. It's a spectacular sight during day and certainly not to be missed by
moonlight. If you are captivated by the beauty and want a closer look, you can
walk down a narrow pathway to the bottom of the gorge, and immerse your body
in a pool of water at the foot of the falls.
Shola Falls
In the Nilgiri hills of Tamil Nadu is the Shola falls. Water cascades 180mts
down and forms a beautiful sight set amongst the undisturbed forest.
Shivanasamudra Water Falls
85 kms from Mysore, River Cauvery cascades down in two picturesque waterfalls
into a 75 Mts. deep Rocky gorge. Shivanasamudra has India's first Hydro - Electric
Power Station which was set up in 1902.
