Prashar Lake
Standing at 2730 m height at Mandi, the lake has a storied pagoda type temple
dedicated to sage Prashar.
Rewalsar Lake
Situated 24 km southeast of Mandi, the Rewalsar Lake has floating reed
islands and is a popular pilgrimage centre with the Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs.
The shrines are on the lakeside.
Khajjiar Lake
Khajjiar has a beautiful lake set in a grassy hollow surrounded by forests
of pine, an easy trek from Dalhousie. Khajjiar is a popular destination. It
is called mini Switzerland of Himachal Pradesh. It has a floating island in
it.
HARYANA
Badkhal Lake
Badkhal Lake, fringed by hills is a man-made embankment, which holds back
the waters of the lake making it a perfect spot for water-sports. On one inlet
in the surrounding hill there are rest huts, which are small, cozy and compact.
On request, one can hire a private jetty for a pleasurable boat ride. The Badkhal
Lake has also been provided with a compact and cool bath complex.
Tilyar Lake
Situated 2 km away from Rohtak, the Tilyar is a lake with pretty views that
attracts boating enthusiasts. The lake has accommodation for guests, restaurants,
bar and a mini-zoo making it a perfect getaway for weekends and holidays.
Karna Lake
Quiet and restful, the artificial Karna Lake in Karnal has its own waters, a
private island, and boating facilities. The lake has birds such as the pied-crested
kingfisher. Ducks and geese floating about in the waters add to the quiet pleasures
of the Karna Lake. It is 124 kms from Delhi.
JAMMU AND KASHMIR
Dal Lake
The 6.4 km long and 4 km wide Dal Lake at Srinagar, is divided into three parts
by manmade causeways and is one of Kashmir's most well known faces.
Lokut Lake
The lake is filled with houseboats, villages, and narrow water canals, lotus
flowers, vegetable gardens, shops, houses and willow- covered islands. Around
the lake are groves of chinar, poplar, willows and pleasure gardens, such as
Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Chashma Shahi and Nazim Bagh. The famous Hazratbal
Mosque is situated nearby.
Tso-Morini
Situated 220 km away from Leh, the exotic Tso Morini Lake, ringed by mountains,
is the only nestling place of the bar-headed geese on the Indus.
Pangong-Tso
130 km long Pangong-Tso is a narrow brackish-water lake, the hues of which change
with the passage of the sun. The lake has its greater part situated in Tibet.
Tulian Lake
The Tulian Lake situated in Pahalgam is snow-covered most of the year.
Nestled amidst tall pine trees, the lake provides a pretty sight with lush greenery
around it.
Mansar Lake
42 kms east of Jammu is the beautiful Mansar Lake surrounded by forested hills
and boating facilities. Surinsar Lake 80 kms away from Jammu the lake is nestled
amidst gigantic conifers.

Sukhna Lake
The 3 km sq artificial lake in Chandigarh is a venue for boating, sailing and
rowing
UTTAR PRADESH
Satopanth Lake
Situated 25 kms away from Badrinath, Satopanth, the glacial lake is said
to have its three corners mark the seats of the Holy Trinity of Lord Brahma,
Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Tracking along the Alaknanda valley to the nearby
cave of Vyasadev where he wrote commentaries, to a snow bridge, trek across
flower-filled meadows, to an impressing sight of the Vasudhara fall, to Chakra
Tirth meadow over a steep ridge of glacier, to the striking green Satopanth
Lake, all of these are pretty sights.
Naini Lake
Naini Lake is a 1.5 km long and 500 m wide lake, around which the charming hill
station of Nainital is settled. Discovered in 1841, Nainital is said to be the
place where Sati's eyes fell (naini), during the decapitation of her corpse,
by the Sudarshan Chakra. The lake (tal) is surrounded by seven hills, the Sapta-Shring.
Garud Tal
The jade-green water of the Garud Tal is named after Vishnu's vehicle followed
by the olive waters of Rama Tal and Sita Tal. Garud Tal is the best known of
the Sat Tals.
Bhim Tal
Situated in an amphitheatre of hills with a wooded island, Bhim Tal is a picnic
spot with restaurants, boating and fishing facilities.
Naukuchiyatal
A pristine, clean and pleasant lake. A quiet paddling allows one to see rare
species of birds. Boats are available for hire.
Dodital
Situated along a beautiful trek between Kalyani and Hanuman Chatti, Dodital
is picturesquely set in a forest of pine, deodar and oak. This is the source
of the Asi Ganga and is stocked with trout. Above the lakes there are fine views
of Bandar Poonch.
Kedartal
17 km from Gangotri, Kedartal is a small glacial lake surrounded by Meru Pithwara
and Bhrigupanth hills. The Gangotri range of mountains can also be seen from
here.
