Sikkim

For many years, Sikkim was regarded as one of the last Himalayan 'Shangri-las' because of its remoteness, spectacular mountain terrain, varied flora and fauna and ancient Buddhist monasteries. Sikkim certainly now seems a more affluent place than neighbouring West Bengal.

Area: 7096 sq kms. The Capital of this state is Gangtok

Boundaries: To the East of Nagaland is the Tibet and Bhutan, to the North is China, to the West is Nepal and to the South West Bengal.

Airports: The nearest airfield is Siliguri's Bagdogra Airport, 124 km away.There are daily flights to Calcutta, Delhi and other places in the North-East.

Rail: Nearest railway stations are Siliguri (114 km), and New Jalpaiguri(125 km), with rail links to destination in the North East , Guwahati, Calcutta, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai Chennai and other places in India.

Road: The main link between Gangtok and the rest of the country is through Siliguri. One can also go to Gangtok from Darjeeling(90) km and Kalimpong (70 km).

Gangtok: This city is a very beautiful city which is situated on the banks of the Ranipool river.From here we can see the peaks of Kanchen Junga.

Chogyar Place: It is also worth seeing. In Room Deck 23km from Gangtok there are many Buddhist temple.

Bakkim: This is a camping place for mountain climbers. There is beautiful garden here.

Yaksam: This is holy place where 3 lamas or Buddhist priests once met.His is an important stage on the mountaineering expedition to the Himalayas.
