South of Nagaland, Manipur (Jewelled Land) borders Mayanmar and is a 'dry' state.Over two dozen tribes inhabit the state.Manipuri dancing is one of the great classical dance forms, which involves acrobatics on the part of the male dancers and slow graceful movements from the female dancers.The main sport is polo, and along with several other places in Asia, Manipur claims to have invented the game.Agriculture and weaving form the basis of the economy. In the course of Manipur's long history there have been several invasions from Myanmar and numerous clashes with the Nagas. During WWII it was occupied by the Japanese. Area: 22,327 sq kms. The Capital of this state is Imphal.

Rail: Nearest railheads are Dimapur in Nagaland (215 km) and Jiribam (225 km), which is on Manipur's border.

Road: Impale is reached via national Highway 39 and 53, which go through Guwahati and Silchar respectively. Bus ply to Dimapur and Guwahati.

Bishenpur: The temple of Bishnu is made of small thin bricks, perhaps indicating some Chinese influence.

Kaina: At a distance of 29 km from Imphal is a Hindu pilgrim Centre. It is associated with the legend wherein Shri Govindajee appeamaroon in a dream to Jail Singh, Maharaj of Manipur.

Langthabal: This is 8 km from Imphal, where you can see some temples and a palace.
