Gujarat

Gujarat has always been a major centre for the Jains, and some of its most interesting sights are Jain temple centres like those a Paliana, and a Girnar Hill, near Junagadh. Gujarat is one of India's wealthier states, with a number of important industries (particularly textiles and electronics) and the dubious distinction of having the largest petrochemical complex in the country. Geographically, Gujarat can be divided into three areas, the eastern (mainland) region includes the major cities of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara (Baroda). The Gulf of Cambay divides the mainland strip from the flat, often barren, plain of the Kahiawar peninsula, also known as Saurashtra.

Apart from its Jain temples, Gujarat's major attraction includes the last Asian lions (in the Gir Forest) and the fascinating IndoSaracenic architecture of Ahmedabad.The colorful tribal villages of Kutch (Kachchh) are well worth the effort of making your way out to this barren region. For more hedonistic pleasures, there are the pristine beaches at Diu, off Gujarat's southern coast, and at Mandvi, 60 km south west of Bhuj, in Kutch.

Area: 1,96,024sq kms. The Capital of this state is Gandhi Nagar.

Boundaries: To the East of Gujarat is Madhya Pradesh, to the North is Pakistan, to the West is Arabian Sea and to the South East is Maharashtra.

Places of Tourist Interest: Dwarka, Somnath, Udwada, Ahmedabad, Sabarmati Ashram. Saputra Mountain, Nal Lake, Gandhi Nagar, Lothal.

Airports: Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, Baroda, Bhuj, Jam Nagar, Raj Kota, and Porbandar. Rail:There is a computerised booking office to the left, as you exist Ahmedabad train station.
Road:Buses to Gandhi Nagar depart every 15 minutes from Lal Darwaja or one of the numerous stops on Ashram Road.

Sabarmati Ashram: It is on the bank of Sabarmati River.Here there are many article used by Gandhi & Kasturi Bhai, between 1918 and 1930. Near this are Victoria Gardens.

Gandhi Nagar: It is 25 km from Ahmedbad. This is the Capital of Gujarat. The beautiful parks and gardens give us delight.

Nal Lake: 64 km from Ahmedabad. Here we can see hundreds of wonderful birds.
Lothal:It is 80km from Ahmedabad, It belonged to the Indus valley Civilization 4,000 years ago. The sea was here at that time but later on it was withdrawn to the Arabian Sea. There used to be a harbour here once.
