DelhiHistorically, Delhi in the last one thousand years has witnessed the birth and rise and fall of innumerable kingdoms in the seven cities of Delhi.Today's Delhi is a blend of all the earlier traditions,cultures and beliefs -a mixture of the ancient, the medieval and the modern, which co-exist and combine in numerous ways. New Delhi which constitutes a major portion of the area having grown at a phenomenal pace during the last fifty years is the Indian capital.

An exceedingly beautiful city with a profusion of gardens, it is also the country's most important political, commercial and cultural centre. Along with its twin city of Old Delhi, New Delhi offers the tourist, especially cultural tourist, a wealth of monumental attractions-ancient, medieval and modern.

Area: 1483 sq kms. The Capital of India and one of the four metro cities is Delhi or New Delhi.

Airport: Delhi is both an International and a Domestic airport and is connected with cities all over the world. Indian Airlines and Vayudoot services connect Delhi with all important cities.

Road: Delhi is connected b an extensive network of roads with all he main cities in India. It is 203 km from Agra, 190 km. from Bharatpur, 238 km. from Chandigarh, 300 km. from orbett national park, 250 km from Jaipur and 147 km Mathura. Thre are bus services to Agra, Ajmer, Amritsar, Bharatpur, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gwalior, Hardwar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kulu, Mathura, Mussoorie, Nainital, Rishikesh, Shimla and several other places.

Jantra Mantar : An astronomical observatory with masonry instruments built in 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh-II, the mathematician and astronomer King of Jaipur.The instruments are intended to show the movements of the sun, moon etc.

Lakshmi Naryan Temple: Popularly known as Birla Mandir, it is a large Hindu temple built in Orissan Style, in 1938, by the renowned Birla family.People of all faiths can worship at this temple.

Qutub Minar is an excellent example of Afghan architecture. The Minar is a 72.5 mts. high victory tower, the construction of which began in the final year of twelfth century by Qutubu'd Din-Aibak and was later completed by his successors.

House of Worship
:Situated a top the Kalka Hill, it is also known as "The Lotus Temple" due to its distinctive lotus shaped design in marble.It was built in 1987 by the followers of Baha'I faith.The temple signifies the purity and equality of all regions. (Monday closed)

Safdarjung Tomb
: At the western end of Lodhi Road is situated the Safdarjung Tomb built in 1753-54 by the son of the second Nawab of Oudh (Monday Only). 

MaroonFort
: Built by Shajahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal in Agra.The construction lasted from 1639 to 1648.

Jama Masjid : Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India and stands across the road from the maroonFort, built in 1656 by Shahjahan.About 20,000 people can pray here at a time.

Rajghat: The simple square platform of black marble marks the place where the father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was cremated.

Humayun's Tomb: Built by Humayun's widows, queen Haji Begum in the 16th centuary, it is supposed to be prototype of the Taj Mahal at Agra.
