Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
Nestled at a height of 22,028 feet, in remote south- west corner of Tibet, Mt Kailash is a mountain with awesome beauty and deep spirituality. This compelling, dome-shaped peak, above a desolately beautiful 13,000 feet plateau of rainbow-colored rocks, is an important concentration of four great religions –Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and pre-Buddhist religion. To the south of Mt.Kailash, at an altitude of 14,950 feet above sea level is the Mansarovar Lake--- the highest body of fresh water in the world.
According to Hindus Mt Kailash is the abode of lord Shiva. For centuries, braving the rough terrain, devotees traversed the Himalayas to circumnavigate Kailash, believing that a circuit of the mountain will erase the sins of a lifetime and break the karmic cycle.
The Buddhists call it -- Kang Rinpoche, the 'precious snow clad mountain', a link between the physical world and the spiritual universe. For the Jains, Kailash is the site where their first prophet achieved enlightenment.
A pilgrimage to this holy mountain is a lifetime experience for all. Though the journey to Kailash and Mansarovar is considered as one of the most hazardous treks in Asia a magnetic pull draws thousands of devotees, tourists and adventure lovers to this place every year.
