Patnitop & Sonamarg Travel Patnitop is a famous
hill resort, 112 kms from Jammu, at an altitude of 2025 m. It is located on a
beautiful plateau on the Jammu-Kashmir highway. It is a thickly forested area
offering peaceful walks and beautiful views of the Chenab basin. During winters
it receives good snowfall and is an ideal venue for winter sports like skiing,
sledging, snow-balling and other activities.
How to reach Patnitop: Air: The nearest airhead is Jammu (112 kms). Rail: The nearest railhead is Jammu (112 kms). Road:There are regular buses from Jammu (112 kms). Literally translated Sonamarg means 'Meadow of Gold'. It is situated to the north-east of Srinagar in the Kashmir valley. It is at an altitude of 2,700 meters It has snowy peaks, lush meadows, meandering Sindh river and clear blue skies. On a the drive from Srinagar to Leh it is the last halt on the Kashmir side. It is also an important trekking base and one trek leads to the holy shrine of Amarnath. Ponies can be hired during summers for the trip to the Thajiwas glacier.
