Travel to Pachmarhi Pachmarhi, situated
210 kms South East of Bhopal. It is full of forest glades, groves of wild bamboo
and jamun, dense sal forests. There are valleys, ravines, maze of gorges, cascading
waterfalls deep azure pools and a variety of wildlife. The place also has rock
paintings ranging from a period of 8000 BC to 800 AD.
Places of interest around Pachmarhi: Mahadeo is a holy shrine with an idol of Lord Shiva and an impressive Shivling. On the east side of the hill is an excellent cave shelter. Pandava Caves are 5 ancient dwellings excavated in the sandstone rock in a low hill. Pachmarhi derives its name from these caves. Catholic Church was built in 1892 by the British and is a blend of French and Irish architecture. Its Belgium stained-glass window add rare attraction and beauty to the building. Christ Church was built in 1875 and is regarded as the most beautiful small church in Madhya Pradesh. Satpura National Park spreads through a dense forest of sal teak and bamboo. It has the high peaks of Dhoopgarh and Mahadeo, beautiful deep valleys, rivulets, waterfalls and Tava's vast reservoir. In the park bison, tiger, panther, bear, 4 horned deer, blue bull and a rich variety of birdscan be found. Dhuandhar, Cave Shelters in Pachmarhi have paintings mostly in white including those of a group of archers. Other places of interest are Forsyth Point, Bee Fall, Handee Kho, Fairy Pool, Gig Fall, Irne Pool, Duchess Falls, Saunders Pool, Chota Mahadeo, etc. Access to Pachmarhi: Air: The nearest airport is Bhopal (195 km), connected by regular flights with Delhi, Gwalior, Indore and Bombay. Rail: Pipariya (47 km) on the Bombay- Howrah mainline via Allahabad, is the most convenient railhead. Road: Pachmarhi is connected by regular bus services with Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Nag- pur, Pipariya and Chindwara. M.P. Tourism also operates regular coach services between Bhopal and Pachmarhi. Taxis are available at Pipariya.
