Category:-All India Travel Tourism > Tamil Nadu > Hill Stations > Kodaikanal
Situated at an altitude of 2133m on the southern tip of the Palani Hills in the Western Ghats, Kodaikanal is a charming place with a cool climate where temperatures does not vary much from summer to winter. Fruits like plums and plantains grow abundantly on the wooded slopes apart from a wide variety of flowers, such as the Kurinji flower, which blossoms only once in 12 years. The magnificent landscapes, the wooded slopes, winding paths are characteristic of Kodaikanal. The star-shaped lake with a 5 km path around it, is a favourite promenade. Kodaikanal also has a golf-course; an observatory built in 1899; an Orchidorium with 300 species of orchids; and picturesque walks. Other star attraction areas are waterfalls such as Bear Shola Falls, Silver Cascade, Fairy Falls and Glen Falls; and Perumal Peak, a favourite with trekkers.
The Shenbaganur Museum, the theological seminary almost a hundred years old houses one of the best orchid collections in India. Coakers Walk on the steep southern face of the Kodai Ridge with its Telescope House offers a fine view of the plains. The Bear Shola Falls, where bears once came to drink water, is a pretty, wooded picnic spot. Pillar Rocks with its fine view point overlooks tall rock outcrops 121 meters high.

Excursions from Kodaikanal:

The temple at Palani is one of the six abodes of Lord Subramanya. During the festivals of Panguni Utthiram (March-April) and Adi Krithikai (July-August), Kavadi dancers dance and walk their way from far and near as they flock to the temple in hundreds, often in trance-like state.
