KAUSANI

Located 53 km to the north of Almora, Kausani, is a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendour and its spectacular 300 km-wide view of the Himalayas. It is often called as the Switzerland of India. On one side of Kasauni flows river Kosi and on the other side thunderous river Gomti and in the middle is Pingnath Peak where Kasauni is located.

It is situated at a height of 6075 ft above sea level. Thickly forested, and separated from the soaring Nanda Devi ranges by low mountains, the place displays an exotic view of the Himalayan ranges that have a charm of their own. Thousands of visitors get attracted to this place due to the mind-blowing view of the sunrise. The place also offers other scenic and beautiful spots for sight-seeing.

Air: The nearest airhead is Pantnagar (180 kms).

Rail: The nearest railhead is Kathgodam (142 kms).

Road: Well connected to major towns of Kumaon and nearby districts - Almora (53 kms), Ranikhet (62 kms), Pithoragarh (107 kms), Nainital (117 kms).

MUKTESHWAR

52 km. from Nainital, Mukteshwar set atop a high ridge, is a beautiful Himalayan resort. Surrounded by fruit orchards and thick coniferous forest, it provides a majestic view of the Himalayas and the Almora town below in glittering moonlit nights.

Mukteshwar was 'put on the map' by the establishment of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute in 1898, which owns much of the land around the little town, including acres of dense virgin forest, home to tiger, leopard, Himalayan black bear, wild boar, langur, rhesus monkeys, deer, a host of bird species. From here one can see a range of peaks, including Neelkantha (Blue-throated Shiva, 6596 m), Nandaghunti (the Veil of the Goddess, 6310 m), Trishul (the Trident of Shiva, 7120 m), Nandadevi (Goddess of Bliss, 7817 m), and the majestic Panchhuli peaks.
