Sandakphu is a trekker's paradise with forests of rhododendrons and silver fir. From here the entire Himalayan range is visible. Spectacular view of sunrise over Mt. Everest & Kanchenjunga can be seen. Darjeeling has many Buddhist monasteries. The Darjeeling Rangeet Valley Ropeway offers a 2 km long journey between Darjeeling and Takvar. The views of tea gardens, hills and valleys, on route, are fantastic. Access to Darjeeling: Air: The nearest airhead is Bagdogra. Rail: The nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri. The Darjeeling Himalayan Toy Train runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling and the journey is particularly exciting. Road: There are regular busses and jeeps from Siliguri and other neighbouring towns. Sikkim has a tremendous variety of plant, bird and animal life together with a diverse ethnic mix of peoples with rich cultural traditions. The name Sikkim is believed to come from the Tsong word 'Sukhim' or Happy House. With entry into this area almost impossible until about 10 years ago, Sikkim has gradually opened its doors and travellers can now visit a few closely defined areas. It is famous for Kanchendzonga, the third largest moutain in the world.
