Popularly
known as the 'Venice of the East', Udaipur was founded in 1568 by Maharana
Udai Singh II. The city once surrounded by a wall is full of palaces, temples
and havelis displaying a refined taste of art and architecture. It's also
a pivotal center for the performing, and creative arts and crafts.

Palace
Lake palace or City Palace, the largest in Rajasthan is a conglomeration of
buildings added by various Maharanas with a high degree of uniformity of designs.
The palace is surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas and there are fine
views over the lake and the city from the palace.
At the northern end is the Tripolia Gate, with 8 carved marble arches. The
main part of the palace is a museum. It includes the Mor Chowk, The Manak or
Ruby Mahal, and Krishna Vilas. In the Bari Mahal there is a Central Garden;
Moti Mahal has beautiful mirror works and Chini Mahal is covered with ornamental
tiles.
