Teli ka Mandir
The Teli Ka Mandir is a 9th century structure towering at 100 ft high. This is
a Pratihara Vishnu temple demonstrating a unique blending of architectural styles-
the roof is distinctively Dravidian, while the decorations have typically Indo-Aryan
characteristics. Another Vishnu temple is the graceful little SAS-BAHU-KA-MANDIR,
built in 11th century.
GURUDWARA DATA BANDHI CHHOD is a landmark built in the memory of Guru Hargobind
Sahib, the 6th Sikh Guru who was imprisoned here by Jehangir for over two years.
Within the Fort complex, is the barracks of the British soldiers.
Jai Vilas Palace splendour of a different kind exists here. Some 35 rooms have
been made in the ScIndia Museum. The Palace is an Italian structure, which combines
the Tuscan and Corinthian architectural styles. The Darbar Hall has two central
chandeliers, weighing a couple of tones. Heavy draperies and tapestries, fine
Persian carpets, and antique furniture from France and Italy are features of
these spacious rooms.
A flamboyant silver train with cut-glass wagons which served guests as it chugged
around on miniature rails on the tables; a delicate glass cradle from Italy used
for the baby Krishna each Janamashtami; silver dining services and swords used
by Aurangzeb and Shah Jehan- these treasures evoke the golden past. There are,
personal mementoes of the ScIndia family such as jeweled slippers, four-poster
beds, gifts from every country in the world, hunting trophies and portraits.
