KasauliCategory:- All India Travel Tourism > City Guide > Himachal Pradesh > Kasauli Located 1927 m above sea level is the small hill - station of Kasauli, which oozes an endearing air of old - world charm. It was developed as a cantonment - sanatorium over 20 years, after the British had based themselves at Simla. Its main attraction lies in its overall cleanliness, and its accessibility; only 15 km from Dharampur, 37 km from Kalka and 65 km from Chandigarh. The narrow winding roads meander their way up and down the hillside and offer some magnificent sights. At 3647 m, the Choordhar or Choor Chandni peak, looms over the sylvan surroundings, and just across the ranges, is Simla. The Upper and Lower Malls are the two principal roads that run along the length of Kasauli, a thick cover of pine, oak, horse chestnut trees embracing the entire area. Traffic is restricted on these roads, which is the reason why, Kasauli is one of the quietest hill stations in India. The resort's colonial aura is underlined by gabled houses with picturesque facades, cobbled alleys and rows of neat orchards and elegant gardens. What To See 44 km from the bus stand is Monkey Point, a fine vantage point for some fantastic views of the surroundings. At Subathu (28 km), some fascinating ruins of an old Gurkha fort are to be found. How To Get There By air: The nearest airports are at Chandigarh ( 65 km ), and Simla ( 73 km ). By rail: The nearest railhead is at Kalka ( 37 km ).
