Udaipur evokes the magic of Indian desert with
a unique blend of sights, sounds and experience. Commonly referred
as the "City of Dawn", this erstwhile princely establishment
is endowed with a beauty that can even inspire imaginations of poets
and painters. Tales of legends and bravery echo from the magnificent
ramparts of the city. The sights of narrow lanes passing through
colorful stalls, lush green gardens and azure blue lakes interrupted
by majestic palaces, make Udaipur a fairy tale destination.
Once the capital of Mewar Kingdom, Udaipur has
an interesting legend associated with it. It goes as—one day
while on his hunting spree, the Maharana of Mewar had come across
a holy man contemplating on a magnificent hill overlooking the Lake
Pichola. The hermit blessed him and advised the Maharana to built
his kingdom at this very site to gain fortune and advantages. Accordingly,
a new city was erected on that strategic site, which soon became
the jewel of Mewar.
Udaipur’s prime attraction is the City Palace.
An architectural marvel equipped with majestic gateways, arches,
well-laid gardens and courtyards, impressive pavilions, terraces
and corridors. The Lake Palace is another surprise of Udaipur right
on the Lake Pichola. The Saheliyon-Ki-Bari or (Garden of the Maids
Honor) is a fabulous garden with extensive lawns and shady walks.
