Mumbai
Mumbai is the home to beaches such as Chowpatty beach, with an open expanse; Juhu Beach, that offers horse and donkey rides, dancing monkeys, acrobats and every other type of Indian Beach entertainment; Versova Beach, home to Mumbai's largest Koli fishing community; and Kashid, a virtually undiscovered, excellent, unspoilt silver sand beach, 60 km north of central Mumbai.

Ganapatipule Beach
With sparkling blue waters and endless stretches of golden or silver sand, Ganapatipule is one of Maharashtra's virgin beaches.

Getting there:

  • Air - The nearest airport is Belgaum, 299km Rail - On Konkan Railway Bhoke is 35km. However, the convenient railhead is Ratnagiri (45km).
  • Road -Mumbai is 375 kms away by road, while Pune is 331 kms away. Belgaum-Ganpatipule is 299km. State transport buses ply from Mumbai and Ratnagiri to Ganpatipule.

Murud-Janjira BeachMurud
The beachcomber at Murud-Janjira beach can delight himself with a semi-ruined fort of Janjira, which serves as a perfect backdrop for photographs. Murud is a quiet palm-fringed coastline with a three-century-old fort, a marvellous piece of architecture.

 

 

Getting there:

  • Rail - Panvel is the nearest railhead.
  • Road - Mumbai is 165 km away.

Dahanu Beach
Thane District, home to the seaside town of Dahanu, is known for its vast stretch of unspoilt beach. Well known for its 'chikoos', the region has a beautiful temple, which houses the sacred fire of the Zoroastrians which has been kept burning for almost thousand years.

Getting there:

  • Rail -The nearest railhead is Dahanu Road, which is around three hours away from Mumbai.
  • Road - By road, Mumbai is 145 kms away.
