Karnataka has a 320 km long coastline, dotted with numerous beaches, that beckon
invitingly to those craving for some respite, from the maddening grind of urban
life. The serenity and unspoilt charm of the area, coupled with the spontaneity
of the coastal folk, and their delectable cuisine is just overwhelming.
Karwar Beach
Karwar beaches rivalling those of Goa, at the mouth of Kalinadi river, lies
Karwar. The beaches at Karwar including Binaga, Arga; Ankola, with the ruined
walls of King Sarpamalika's fort; Bele keri; and Palolem, an attractive little
campsite, set in a bay overlooking an island. Set along the coast the mango
groves are a relaxing sight.
Getting there:
Karwar is on the Konkan railway connecting Mumbai with Goa and Mangalore.
Marwanthe Beach
Marwanthe is a unique seaside town, where the West Coast Highway cruises
along with the Arabian Sea on one side, and the river Sauparnika rushes against
a verdant mountainous backdrop on the other. Sunset casts a breathtaking glow
on the surrounding waterscape. Water sports and beach resorts promise an enjoyable
holiday here.
Mangalore
With a colonial legacy, roads that cross numerous broad estuaries, strikingly
beautiful country, Mangalore is the home to many beautiful beaches such as the
Ullal beach in the north and the Surathakal beach in the south of Mangalore.
Malpe Beach
Malpe with its sheltered harbour makes a quiet beach retreat, just six kilometers
away from Udupi. Right across is St.Mary's Isles, more serene and ideal for
picnics can be reached by boat from here.
Maravanthe

Getting there:
There are buses to Kundapura from Udipi and Mangalore; you will need to get
a taxi or a local bus to Maravanthe from there.
