Goa Beach HolidaysCategory: - All India Travel Tourism > Beaches > Goa Palm-fringed
Goa, on the Western coast of India, is blessed with some of the best beaches in
the world. Like the coastline, the beaches are extensive. Miramar, the urban beach,
where swimming is restricted; Dona Paula with a fine view of the harbour; Bambolim,
shaded by palms trees as also the secluded beach of Sirdao. The North of Goa boasts
of Arambol, locally called the 'hippie beach'; Terekhol with a Maratha fort; Vagator,
an attractive bay between rocky headlands; Anjuna, the most popular of all beaches;
Calangute and Baga with white undulating sands. Candolim beach is backed by scrub-covered
dunes; Sinquerim, famous for its water sports, has a magnificent 17century fort,
now converted into a prison; Bogmalo, the secluded, crescent-shaped cove. The
Zortino and Velsao beach in central Goa are also splendid beaches. To the south
of Goa, lies Majorda, a broad, flat and windswept beach; magnificent Colva beach
with white sands and swaying palm trees and Betul beach offers total seclusion
and magical beaches.
Margao Benaulim Beach Calungute Baga is a secluded and pleasant beach with good recreational facilities like river cruises, water-skiing, yachting and fishing. The landscape here is more interesting. Staying here is no problem, as there are many small cottages available. Getting there: There are frequent buses connecting to Calangute or Baga from Panaji and Mapusa. Buses from Mapusa and Panjim pull in at the small bus stand-cum-market square in the centre of Calangute. Some continue to Baga, stopping at the crossroads behind the beach en route. Expansive white sands, sun-drenched and palm-fringed for kilometres, all the way from Majorda, through Colva, Benaulin, down to the point at Mobor greet the visitor. Twenty- years ago precious little disturbed Colva, except the fisher folk and the hippies. People who visited Colva, stayed in palm leaf shelters since only two cottages existed on Colva Beach. Today, the beach - longest (20km) in Goa, offers good accommodation. There are small hotels as well as five star ones, like the Goa Renaissance Resort and the Leela Beach Resort, as well as cottages and restaurants around Colva, which is six kms away from Margao.
